Free Judo and Yoga Classes at Dokyo Club in Calpe

The Dokyo Club in Calpe are offering a free course for beginners in judo and yoga during the month of September. The Club has been offering these special courses for a number of years now. It is a great way to get to know and actually participate in these sports before deciding. The judo course will  commence on the 10th of September and anyone over the age of three is welcome to take part. By contacting the club itself you will find that no special kit is required, just practical sportswear.

This year the yoga course will be taught by Isabel Signes, and will commence on the 2nd of September the first week of which is free of charge. The timetable will be :Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 16:00.

Cove "Cala Mallorquí" in Calpe

La Cala del Mallorquí in Calpe is situated on the edge of Calpe Benissa, between the Port of  Les Bassetes and Cala Calalga. It  can be  accessed by the Voramar path down some steps that descend to the cove and along beautiful trail surrounded by vegetation typical of  the Mediterranean coast. It is a small bay of 50 meters long and 5 meters wide, and is well worth a visit for its crystal clear waters. It is a highly  recommendable cove  for  diving and fishing.

The Cala Gasparet of Calpe

Here is a link to the new guide to Charming Beaches and Coves which is published  by the Comunitat Valenciana  and in which it appears the Cala Gasparet of Calpe.

The guide defines  La Cala Gasparet in Calpe as follows ( rough translation): “Slumbering on the edge of the Sierra de Toix and away from the buildings that cover the rest of the area there is a small cove known as Cala Gasparet, near to  which is the Cave of the Oroneta. Its access is impossible to most, since  all along the coast their are towering limestone cliffs but to any with  the privilege of having a small boat the access is easy. The Sierra de Toix has the best views of this stretch of coast and is accessible from a  undulating track  that reaches the top, from where the bravest jump  in their colourful paragliders in search of the beach. ”

An added novelty of the guide “Charming Coves and Beaches” is the inclusion of GPS coordinates of the Coves and in this case the exact coordinates to access  the Cala Gasparet Calpe are 38 ° 31′51 “N0 ° 5′77″ W.

The Beer Festival (Oktoberfest) at Calpe

Only a few days ago the Town of Calpe was busy celebrating their ( Bull running in the streets), but they are already getting ready for the next fiestas that will be held in October 2010. Local fiestas in Honour of the Virgen of the Snows and the Bous al Carrer

-Procession of the Virgen del Rocio, Calpe fiestas from the 9th to the 12th of  September in honour of the Virgen del Rocio. The pilgrimage is organized by the Hermandad Rociera  of the Casa de Andalucía.The main event these festivals is the encounter between Virgen del Rocío and San Juan with the celebration of the Rociera Mass.

- The Beer Festival, (Oktoberfest) which is organized by the Club Carnaval Calpe.This is a traditional German festival  to which people come from all over the North of the Costa Blanca. If you are in the area between the 7th  to October  the 17th  2010 then you can´t miss it. When we have more information about the Calpe Oktoberfest´s programme we will let you know.

The Five Club Trophy Regatta

This September marks the beginning of the 5 Club Trophy  Autumn Season in the Alicante province.

This second season will begin on Sunday the 12th of September 2010 with the regatta that will set sail from the Club Náuticio de Moraira. The next regatta is to take place on Saturday the 23rd of October from the  Club Nautico de Altea, the following regattta from the Real Club Náutico of Calpe  on Sunday the 14th of November and finally the last regatta from the Club Náutico de Campomanes on Saturday the 11th of December 2010.

On the day of the regattas lunch will be offered to all participants, except for at the Club Náutico de Campomanes where they will be offering breakfast. After each regatta trophies will be awarded to the prize winners.

At the website  Real Club Náutico de Calpe you can find more detailed information about the the regattas and the results from the previous regattas held in Spring “Temporada Primavera 2010” which was held at the Moraira, Altea and Calpe Club Náutico.

Puerto Blanco Beach Calpe

The Puerto Blanco Calpe Beach is a quiet cove  with a beach of rather coarse sand and gravel  that measures approximately 100 metres by 10 metres and is  protected at its southern end by the northern break water of the small marina of Puerto Blanco.

The beach has a lifeguard service, toilets, foot-baths and this year  they also have a super cool beach bar which serves very good food.

Near the beach at the Puerto Blanco  Marina there is a good restaurant with a terrace that  has wonderful views and where they serve a delicious  paella. If you wish to eat on the terrace it is best to call and book a table.

For a special treat you could have a meal at the  Puerto Blanco Restaurant which can be found on the Urbanization La Canuta Baja Nº 35B. It is a charming restaurant in a relaxed and calm atmosphere where you can enjoy varied menu of high quality.

Cantal Roig Beach Calpe

Today we include a picture of Playa Cantal Roig Calpe,as you can see it is a small beach of about 200 metres long  located near the fishing port and the Penon de Ifach.

It is a semi-natural sandy beach with  easy access, lifeguard, first aid, toilets and footbaths. It also boasts  reassuring blue flag. The bus stops close by, so no need to take the car.

It has a great location as it is close to the port and the fantastic seafood  restaurants, so after a morning on the beach and an easy walk, one can enjoy a good paella or fresh fish.

Altea Crafts Fair

During the month of August  until September the  4^th Altea is holds a  Crafts Fair in the evenings at the Church Square in the Old Town of Altea.To walking through the streets of the old town of Altea is an enchanting experience, and  you  can enjoy the stalls of crafts from all over Spain ranging from pottery, jewelry, recycled paper, glass, cane, cardboard, wood, etc.

This year 40 artisans have presented themselves from all over Spain and the jury has selected the 20 that will be exhibited at the Plaza of the Church. Here we can  even find  some crafts from outside of  main land Spain.

In addition, there will be a competition to select three special pieces of art/craft that will then be shown at the Exhibition at the Casa de Cultura. The prizes awarded are from 1,000 to 800 Euros respectively. During the Festival of Crafts there will be workshops for the public, and  various musical performances.

"Xirimbala" Beach Bars in Benissa

If  you are on the North of the Costa Blanca this Summer, specifically Javea, Moraira, Benissa, or Calpe then you might be interested in going to a great place, that due to it´s unusual location, not everyone has discovered. La Cala Baladrar of Benissa ( on the Moraira-Calpe coast  road )   hides an amazing beach bar called the Xirimbala where they even hold performances of live music, with special menus,  full moon parties and much more. On Monday they organize live music, on Thursday Argentinian  barbecue, Friday is  grilled sardines

night and  on Saturdays and Sundays tapas menu. The best thing about this beach bar is it´s fantastic location right on the waterfront, and the prices are very reasonable especially considering it´s wonderful views. On the nights with live music or special menus it is advisable to reserve especially if you are a large group. The phone number is 607 916 430.

Another of the beach bars that can be found on the coast of Benissa is  located in Playa La Fustera. This is less of an evening venue and more of a snack bar for people using the beach . Just near by  they will be  hosting live music with DJ´s at the La Fustera Beach Restaurant, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 21:00 hours to 02:00 hours, I have not been but the place is perfect to enjoy a evening by the sea.

Open air cinema beach

During the month of August the film sessions on the Playa de la Fossa-Levante Calpe (Alicante), ( on the beach opposite the Topacio building) continue. You can enjoy a film in the open air on Wednesdays at 22:00 pm.

Abseiling Option for Active Holidays

We have discovered a very interesting Summer option to keep you occupied if you enjoy nature. The municipality of Benissa and the Vall del Pop have created a programme for active holidays with exciting  options during the month of July there scheduled a multi-adventure activities: abseiling down ravines.

The chosen location is Castell de Castells: “The Calvo pas“, the activity combines climbing and caving techniques, follows the course of a river at  with steep slopes some of which have to be abseiled down  etc. .., the company conducting the activity is Tururac and their telephone number if you require more information is 630 992 488.

Kayak outings in Benissa

With the arrival of summer and of course the holidays and we are always looking for activities, especially if they are linked with the sea.  A great  option I found is the Programme of Activities Benissa and the Vall del Pop  for  Active Tourism. It  is a comprehensive program that involves all types of activities. During the winter they organise hiking trails, guided tours,street theatre routes, etc …, and that during the months of Summer they have scheduled lots of activities along the coast of Benissa,  with it´s incredible coastline, coves and beautiful beaches.

In this program, they offer snorkeling excursions along the coves and bays of Benissa : Cala dels pinets, Cala La Llobella, Platgeta L’Advocat, Baladrar  Bay, the Les Bassetes and La Fustera. Beach. Fiestas in Benissa for this Summer 2010

During the months of these Summer  holidays in the town of Benissa you will find a great number of leisure activities and festivals to take part in. Some of which  are celebrated in parts of town and on the beaches and coves.

- Here are some of the dates of interesting events taking place in Benissa for the month of July:

- From the 9th  to the 11th of July the Barrio de San Antonio festival: with street party on Friday, “Sobaquillo” dinner on Saturday the 10th  and then the performance of the orchestra Colors. Sunday the  11th  at 10:30 the traditional procession of San Antonio, mass and giant paella for all.

From the 16th to the 18th of July:  Local Festivals of Pedramala

- From the 16th to the 18th of July  Pedramala Local Festival:Friday the dinner of the brotherhood and a musical performance. On Saturday the  XXVI Championship of Brisk  at 18:00 and a grand ball at 21:00. On Sunday  Mass at 11:00 am, and evening dinner followed by a dancing party.

From the 23rd to the 29th of  July :  Benimarco The San Jaime Fiestas

- From the 23rd to the 29th of  July Local Fiestas of Benimarco ( San Jaime): On Friday the 23rd  game of hand ball at 19:30 to be followed by a dinner and the performance of a popular  Cabaret group. On Saturday a large festival and performance of the orchestra Ebony. The day of San Jaime they will be celebrating a  Sunday Mass at 11:00 am. Later a rooster  race at  13:30 and a  humorous parade 18:30 h. The grand ball with the music of the orchestra Jamaica at 23:30. The paella contest will be held on Monday at noon and in the evening there will be a street party.  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 19:00 bull running in the streets.

July the 26th Fiestas of the Santa Ana Area:

- July 26th Fiestas in Santa Ana,  the yearly  pilgrimage to the hermitage and picnic at 18:00 hours. At 20:00  dance with orchestra.

Activities on the Peñon de Ifach ( Rock of Ifach) in Calpe for children and adults

During the months of July and August 2010 there is a full program of various activities on the Peñon de Ifach ( Rock of Ifach) in Calpe for children and adults.

Children will have the chance to be archaeologists for a day or enjoy the fun organised in the park,  special building workshops and nature trails,  tracking games , called  “plant hunters”  and aromatic bag-making workshops. Workshops will be held Wednesday from 10:00 to 12:00, places are limited and entries free, if you’re interested in bringing your children give them a call on 679 195 912.

Adults and older children may choose either night or day tours, day visits will be on Friday morning, organized jointly with the Department of Tourism, and night every Tuesday night. The night tours were a great success last Summer and was one of the most popular tour options in  Calpe last year.

Telefonica Grand Prix of Europe Formula 1 Valencia, Fernando Alonso

Valencia will host from the 25th  to the  27th of June 2010 the Telefonica Grand Prix of Europe Formula 1 ,Valencia, in a spectacular street circuit through the streets of Valencia, and through the attractive area of the marina of Port America’s Cup, including a rotating bridge that crosses  over the port entrance channel.

This year one of the biggest attractions of the Grand Prix is to see Fernando Alonso driving a Ferrari, with which he will be competing at this track for the first time.

In addition to the races, attendees can enjoy other activities related to the Telefonica Grand Prix of Europe Valencia 2010  like  the Malvarrosa Beach Park, which is a leisure and entertainment area right by the circuit. There will also be  open days, which will enable all citizens and visitors who want access to the Valencia Street Circuit after the races are over.

This is without doubt a fantastic opportunity to see the city of Valencia and have the chance of seeing the best teams such as Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and Red Bull and be able to enjoy it all live with the Formula 1.

The Moors and Christians Festival in Benissa

The Moors and Christians Festival is coming to Benissa this week . They will be celebrating this magical colourful “Fiesta”  from the 24th to the 28th of June. Here is some useful information about what is lined up for the Moors and Christians of 2010.

Programme Fiestas Moors y Christians 2010 Benissa:

- Thursday, June 24th : 22:00 All the ranks (“Filaes”) meet up at the Castle and celebrate the  Dinner of the Brotherhood ( La Cena de la Hermandad).

- Friday 25th June: at 23:00  presentation ceremony of the Banderines, Abanderados, Ambassadors and Captains followed by the Proclamation of the Fiesta.
- Saturday June 26th: at 19:30  the offering Mass in honor of St. Peter the Apostle .

At 23:30 the Siege of the Moors from the Convent to the Square,  later the capture of the castle by the Moors.

- Sunday June 27th : Grand Parade of all of Benissa “Filaes”, this year the Moorish Captains   belong to the “Filá” ( Rank)  “Taifes Esclaus” and the Christian Captains are in the “Corsaria” rank.

- Monday, June 28th : 12:00 the siege ,recapturing and conquest of the Castle by the Christians. At 20: 00 humorous parade put on by the different “Filaes”.

San Juan Bonfire Nights of Calpe 2010 ( Hogueras)

Festivals ( Fiestas) in Calpe from 26th  to 27th of June 2010 with the  San Juan Bonfire Nights of  Calpe 2010 ( Hogueras). Four days and different ways to  enjoy the Bonfires of San Juan . Here we include the programme so that you can participate in activities that interest you.

– Thursday, June 24: Fiesta de San Juan, they will build the bonfire at  La Cometa  at 19:00 and at 19:30 they will offer a free shuttle bus from Calpe to the Ermita de San Juan in La Cometa, which will host the offering Mass in honor of San Juan. At 22:00 there will be a snack for all participants and at 22:30 the bus will return to Calpe.

– Friday June 25: a day dedicated to the young people with  dinner at the Ermita of San Juan in La  Cometa, live music and young bull running.

– Saturday June 26: all afternoon party with kids playground (19:00 hours), session of  bull running at La Cometa (20:00 pm), screening of reports of  La Cometa Festival (21:00 hours),  dinner “Sobacquillo” at (22:00 hours), open air cinema (23:00 pm), bull running (24:00 hours).

– Sunday June 27: The Lighting of the Bonfire Day, at 09:30 am departure of  the traditional pilgrimage by bicycle from Calpe to the Ermita of San Juan. Meeting point is to be at the Town Hall door of  Calpe. Later at 13: 00 the paella contest. And from 20:00 hours to 22:00 hours bull running in the streets. At 22.00 they will set fire to the bonfire at La Cometa,  Calpe .

The Antipodes School of Sailing at the Club Náutico Les Bassetes

Anyone visiting the North of the Costa Blanca (Benissa, Calpe, Moraira, Javea, Benitachell), this Summer who likes water sports is guaranteed to have  fun with the activities organized at the coast of Benissa in their active holiday programme. This innovate  idea has been put together by Benissa and the Vall del Pop.

If you like sailing in or want to learn more about it then this catamaran ride along the coast of Benissa, from which you can discover the beautiful beaches of Benissa and it´s  panoramic views, is perfect for you.

Catamaran rides are organized by the Antipodes School of Sailing, at the Club Náutico Les Bassetes on Avenida La Marina,  2.5 km from Benissa. The rides will take place on the 20th  and 27th of June;  4th , 11th , 18th  and  25th of July;  1st , 8th , 15th , 22nd and 29th of August; 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th of September and the 3rd and 4th of October.

Sailing Tour of Spain 2010

Sailing Tour of Spain: 12 to 28 june 2010

The Sailing Tour of Spain 2010 and this year has the added attraction that one of the seven designated ports is Calpe (Alicante). The Sailing Tour of Spain starts on the June 12th  and ends June the  28th .

They will be sailing in IMOCA Open 60  boats with five crew members will participate. The competition is made up of six stages and a total of 1,735 miles. They will be  visiting the port of Hondarribia, Santander, Gijón, Sanxenxo, Calpe, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona during the course of the competition. This year´s  Sailing Tour of Spain will be held in June and we will see 5 Spanish teams and  2 French participating.

The schedules are:

- 12th  June : Hondarribia – Cape Higuer – Santander, 90 nautical miles
- 14th  June : Santander – Gijon 100 nautical miles
- 16th  June: Gijón – Sanxenxo 220 nautical miles
- 20th  June: Sanxenxo – Calpe, 830 nautical miles
- 26th  June: Calpe – Palma, 140 nautical miles
- 28th  June: Palma de Mallorca – Cap de Creus, Barcelona, 350 nautical miles

Festival of San Juan

San Juan Fiestas in Calpe 24/06 to 27/06

As everyone knows during  the month of June  the vast majority of the municipalities in the province of Alicante celebrate the festival of San Juan.  The town of Calpe also organizes  every year several events to celebrate the Fiesta of the Bonfires of San Juan. The festivities start on Thursday June the 24th  and end on Sunday the 27th of June. Here are some of the events that will take place during these dates, if there are more events and parties added later, we will  include them over the coming month.

AT THE BOL BEACH, CALPE ARENAL: Night of San Juan to be celebrated with a special dinner – “Cremá” (Burning) where they will light the bonfire on the beach Arenal-Bol at 24.00h. - Festivities to be held at the Plaza de Colón.

URBANIZACIÓN, “THE COMET.” On the eve of San Juan Bautista, the patron of “La Cometa”, is preparing a bonfire made up of chairs, tables and other objects in disuse, which they will set fire to at night to celebrate the arrival of summer. It is celebrated from ancient times and is organized by a local family. Date: June the 24th bull-running during the  afternoon and evening – Children’s games in the afternoon – Paella contest – And lastly the “Cremá” ( when they light the bonfire).

Fira de Calp 2010 (Calpe Fair 2010)

Calpe Trade Fair in June 2010

Calpe is already preparing for the second  Fira de Calp 2010 (Calpe Trade Fair). It is a trade fair and offers interesting cuisine.It is to be held from the 3rd of  June until the  6th  in the Plaza Mayor of Calpe (Alicante).

At the  Fira Calp II  2010 there will be about 100 exhibitors of which 57 will be dedicated to gastronomy and  43 to trade .An initiative devised to promote local trade, the gastronomic sector and to offer Calpe the chance to make contact with other business opportunities with the traders and exhibitors.

The previous edition of the “FiraCalp,” was visited by about 10,000  people and comprised a total of 34 restaurants in Calpe offering products at affordable prices, there were also 44 local shops and  6 car dealers. Since the organization is expected to FiraCalp 2010 Second Edition is the same as successful as its predecessor.

The Beach Arenal - Bol in the town of Calpe

If you are going to spend some time in Calpe during the holiday season , then we recommend that you go to the beach called the Arenal-Bol, on the street Calle Italia. As you can see on the photo the it has fine sand and palm trees. It is approximately 900 metres long and 40 metres wide. The back  of the beach meets the promenade which leads to the town centre.

During the high season it has first class  facilities with lifeguards, ambulance service, access to the swimming area for people with disabilities, sea state information, toilets, etc … and is always kept very clean.

In 2009 it was awarded the blue flag and has the Q of the Institute for Tourist Quality, ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 14001:2009.

The cultural agenda for this month of may in Calpe comes complete with concerts for all tastes. One of the most outstanding concerts is organized by the Chamber Orchestra of the “New Philharmonic of Cologne.”

On Friday, May 28th: the Chamber Orchestra of the “New Philharmonic of Cologne” will be performing at 20:30 pm in the Auditorium.

Admission for adults is € 17, € 14 pensioners and 12 € for students and children under 28 years, (0 € children under 12 years). Calpe SH Ifach 4-star hotel

The Calpe SH Ifach 4-star hotel is considered one of the top 5 hotels in Calpe, which currently has about 35 accommodation options including hotels, hostels, hotels and camping areas.

The SH Ifach Hotel Calpe is located in Avenida Juan Carlos I s / n, 150 m from the Playa de la Fossa, overlooking the seafront promenade of the Infanta Elena and 1 km from the town centre of Calpe.

It has 193 rooms many with views of the Penon de Ifach, 170 double rooms, 22 superior double rooms and one suite. Standard double rooms are very nice,they have a terrace and bathroom and, if you wish you can request a king size bed. The price is usually  35 euros cheaper than the premium rooms. The hotel offers bed and breakfast, half board or full board, it is probably worth taking half board as the buffet restaurant is very good and after a long day at the beach or visiting Calpe eating at the hotel is a very good idea . The hotel also  has an excellent outdoor swimming pool with terrace. It is a very recommendable place for family trips especially if small children because the hotel entertainment  is excellent and they offer a reliable babysitting service.

We recommend both the hotel and the rooms as they are large and very clean.The location could  not be better as it allows easy access to go to the beach, the centre of Calpe, the fishing port and the promenade all  on foot.

During the months of May and June as the weather improves Calpe offers more and more energetic touristic activities. There are some especially interesting options towards the end of May 2010. Here are some suggestions:

- On Thursday the  27th of  May: follow the VORAMAR PATH. A guided tour along an ecological trail belonging to Benissa and to the port  of Les Bassetes. Meeting point is at  Cala Calalga  at 17:00.

SNORKEL EXCURSION: A talk and practical introduction to  snorkeling at the Cala del Penyal, including all necessary apparatus except  bathing suit. The meeting point  is at CEMAS  Calle Gibraltar  No. 4 at 15:00 pm

- On Saturday the 29th of May: THE PATH OF OLTÁ. A guided tour to the top of the Sierra de Oltà. Meeting point at the Oltá camping area at 17:00.

The signing of the deeds

The signing of the deeds is done in front of the Notary, who guarantees the legality of the operation. At this moment  one also pays the total or  settles the remaining amount owed for the property and the keys are handed over. From this moment on the buyer becomes the new owner.

It is advisable to meet with the Notary a few days in advance in order to obtain advice and review the draft of script and to apply any modifications that are deemed appropriate. There is a fixed tariff for the signing of all deeds by the Government. Though the Notary is at liberty to reduce his fees by up to 10%.It is recommendable, in order to protect your rights, to make sure that the deeds reflect the correct  price; if a lower price is declared  it does not comply with the law and often leads to  long-term higher costs and interests.

Do not overlook any of the Notary´s obligations to you as a buyer, for example; to make sure the property in question has no outstanding community payments, referral entry of presentation and do not hesitate to ask for the registration information. Also, remember that the payments of the deeds are to be made by the seller.

16/05 Multi adventure, Sierra de Bernía

Here is some interesting information about  new multi-adventure activities organized by the Vall del Pop Association. This little expedition, will involve abseiling and archery in the Sierra de Bèrnia mountains, from which the views could not be more spectacular.

The point of departure is the Tourist Office is at Benissa on Avenida País Valenciá. ( If you are coming by  motorway turn off at the Benissa exit, nº 63 and head towards the town.) - Guided tour along the path of Voramar  and La Manzanera on Thursday the 13th  May at 09:30 hours from the Calle Benidorm. A great opportunity to enjoy the magnificent views of the coastline of Calpe and  the buildings designed by the Architect  Bofil.

- Guided tour through the Old Town of Calpe on Thursday May the 13th , meeting point outside the Casa de Cultura at 11:30 am on the  Avenida Masnou 1. This tour is estimated to take approximately 1 and a half hours.

- Guided tour inside the archaeological site of the Vila d ‘Ifac. Meeting point at the base of the Rock of Ifach near the parking at 09.30.

Murla "Caballo Verde"

On Sunday May the 2nd 2010 you can go hiking along the route of Murla and  the Montaña Mítica el Cavall Verd ( the Mythical Mountain the Green Horse). You will see how the Spanish ancestors held off the invasions of the moors through the circular route from the Cavall Verd to the village of Campell in the Vall de Laguar.

This is not a very long trek, but has many points of interest to visit in the areas of Murla, Ermita de Sant Sebastia and Muralla de Fontilles. There are panoramic views of Torre-Iglesia, “Penya Roja”, “Cavall Verd”, Campell and the remains of the defences against the Moors. The route is considered of  medium-high physical difficulty and of a  high degree of technical difficulty.

The meeting point  is from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento of  Murla at 09:00 am and will takes approximately five hours. The hike includes  monitor, guide and insurance.

Kitesurf Calpe

Kitesurf  Ifach Calpe  Association, founded in September 2004 by nine members, resident to Calpe and keen  Kite and KiteMtb Surfers and  Acrobats. The association was founded with the aim of conserving a spot with the appropriate  landscape and  weather conditions for the practice of water sports.

Kitesurf  Ifach Calpe currently has 48 dedicated associates with one great  passion: the wind. It is a non-profit association, with the sole interest of enjoying the sea and wind.

Calpe is a coastal town that lives from tourism, the beaches are sandy and offer an ideal climate to enjoy the beach all year round. Due to it´s proximity to  the town centre and popular  beaches wih their large number of bathers in the summer; it was necessary to create a set of rules and pointers for kitesurfing, to ensure the safety for the surfers and for the other users of the beaches.

Kitesurf Ifach in collaboration with the Town Hall of Calpe, have conditioned the  kitesurf area with various security measures. There is a wind  vane on the  south jetty  (near the kitesurf area) and a wind vane sleeve that can be seen from the webcam at the Arenal-bol beach, for a constant reference of the wind direction and intensity.They have also managed to install a weather station and the placement of several signs signalling the Kitesurf area with the rules.

To promote the sport, Kitesurf Ifach organize many events and activities each year, with a great success and huge participation.

The low cost Benidorm

23,24/07 The Low Cost Benidorm Festival

Here are some sneak previews of the artists and dates of the Low Cost Benidorm Festival 2010, that will be held on the 23rd and the 24th of July.

Some of the more outstanding artists are the British band , “The Editors” who will be playing on the 23rd and the alternative rock group, “Placebo,” on the 24th of July.

Here are some of the groups anticipated to be performing at the Benidorm Low Cost Festival 2010, but we will update the information as new dates and acts filter in:

Scheduled to take place at the bullring in Benidorm, the auditorium Julio Iglesias  and the amphitheatre  Óscar Esplá in the Recinto L’Aigüera. Tickets for each day cost 30 euros but there is a season ticket for both days for 45 euros which is why it is called the Benidorm  Low Cost  Festival.

If you want to have a wonderful day out with the family during the Spring and Summer months then consider making a visit to Valencia Bioparc. At this time of year it is open right through until 8.00pm.

For those of you not familiar with the Bioparc, it is a zoo with a very modern philosophy based around the concept of, “Zoo-immersion”. The first phase of  the Bioparc is dedicated to  the African Savannah with  extensive herds of antelopes, giraffes, rhinos and lions.

Those who have visited the Bioparc agree that the most exciting part  is the Equatorial African area with gorillas, buffalo, leopards and elephants and  the only recreation in the world of one of Africa’s most legendary caves, “Kitum Cave”.

Other highlights of the zoo are the Madagascan forest habitat, the Bird Aviaries and the life cycle exhibition.

Calpe the 7th Spanish Sailing Open World

27/04 to 01/05 Real Club Náutico Calpe

From April 27th  to May 1st  2010  in the waters of Calpe the  7th Spanish  Sailing Open  World  Official Event Qualifier will be held.

Organized by the Real Club Náutico de Calpe and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) under the jurisdiction of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and with the support of the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community (FVCV) .

The event will consist of a Round Robins with quarter finals, semi finals and final. The chosen crafts are TOM 28s and the race course will be windward / leeward with starboard rounding in favour of the wind. The trophies for the skipper and crew of the teams finishing first, second and third places will be awarded by the Real Club Náutico de Calpe and will consist of 3,000 euros for the first classified, € 2,000 for second place and € 1,000 for third place.

Pablo Picasso in Benissa

The Pablo Picasso Exhibition in Benissa, Alicante, until April 23, 2010: The title of which is the “Comtemplador Activo” ( the Active Viewer). PRINTS  from 28/08/1966 to 15/01/1967, Bancaja collection.

The exhibition will be shown at the Centro de Arte Taller D´Ivars (Art Centre d’Ivars Workshop) on Calle Padre Andrés Ivars No. 21, organized by Fundación Bancaja and in collaboration with  the Town Hall of Benissa.

The exhibit features 60 prints created by Pablo Picasso between August 27, 1966 to January 15, 1967, which address different topics, such as theatre,  the circus, friendship, erotica, etc. The exhibition is accompanied by a nearly 200-page catalogue  published by the Fundación Bancaja. Admission is free and visiting hours are from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 13:00 hours and 17:00 to 20:30.

Dry river beds

Here are some exiting opportunities for outdoor activity lovers. Organised by the Vall del Pop Association. They have planned an interesting itinerary for most of the weekends from the 18th of April until Sunday the 19th of May 2010. The activities consist in discovering the gorges, dry river beds and caves by climbing and abseiling.

The incredible landscape of the area of Castells de Castells, is sure to guarantee an amazing day  of adventure. The expedition is to set off from Benichembla at 09:00 h and the price is 35 €, the company in charge of these activities is Tururac. Trophy Race Yacht Club Campomanes

The Regatta, “The 5 Trophy Race”, to held at the Yacht Club Campomanes will take place on April the 10th 2010. The Club are offering breakfast to all the participants and after the race the prizes will be given out.

Book Fair in Calpe

During the Easter break of  2010,Calpe is organizing several events as it is a date on which the municipality receives many visitors. One of the activities is the borough’s Book Fair which will be located on the calle Colón street  from 2 to 5 April 2010; an exhibition organized by the Department of Youth and Culture with the collaboration of the libraries of Calpe Art, Hermanos Vazquez and Jimenez.
Among the activities organized in Calpe Easter Week Book Fair  2010 we would highlight the space for works published by the City Calpe and the activities for the little ‘uns, workshops, storytelling and street games.

La the Book Fair 2010 will commence onFriday the 2nd of April 2010 at 19:15 h and on Saturday   they will present  various books of the following titles and authors : “Calp dins de la història del Poble Valencià” by Frances Monjo, “Legado de Sangre”by David Quesada, “Bon día, els contes de Marc” by Carme Miquel y “Amor y un túnel de noches eternas”by Julia Robles.

28th International Festival of Music and Dance, organized by the Carnival Club Calpe

Success for the 28th International Festival of Music and Dance, organized by the  Carnival Club Calpe with the participation of over 500 artists.

Musical and dance with a program that included all types of music and dance, from  brass bands, to country music, rock, pop music, hits from  the ’60s and ’70s,  marching bands, dance groups, theatre groups and various comedians and singers at a gala attended by nearly 500 artists. The parade of costumes through the streets of the town of Calpe met many visitors who enjoyed seeing the musicians, artists and groups performing at the German carnival. It is incidentally   the  largest German Carnival to take place outside  of Germany .

The Calpe Carnival Club celebrates several events throughout the year and among the most important is the International Festival of Music and Dance held in February and the beer festival “Oktoberfest” that takes place in October, an event  which is essential to those who want to spend a weekend of celebration and fun with typical German food like sausages or pork knuckles, music and lots of great German beer.

Solidarity Course Trophy Calpe

The Trofeo Rumbo Solidario (Solidarity Course Trophy) will be held in the waters of Calpe on the 2nd and 3rd of  April 2010, organized  by the Real Club Nautico Calpe, with the permission of the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community.

The proceeds raised will go to the Federation of Adapted Sports for the  Adapted Sailing proposal   of the season.

The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of ISAF Sailing 2009-2012 (RRS), Cruise Ship Technical Regulation and its annexes, RI Measurement Regulation, Competition Regulation of FVCV.

Vall del Pop in the “Dejate Llevar 2010” (Let yourself go 2010) programme

The  Vall del Pop Association organizes a caving expedition in Castell de Castells.

A great  advantage to living on the Costa Blanca is that you can enjoy both the beach and the  countryside and it´s quaint inland towns, such as Castell de Castells.  You can sun yourself on the beach or take a scenic walk or any of the  hiking trails and multi-adventure activities in the mountains.

Many of these activities are organized by the  Vall del Pop in the “Dejate Llevar 2010” (Let yourself go 2010) programme. The Vall del Pop is formed by 9 municipalities and encompasses an area of great beauty and  ecological value.

Next Sunday the 28th of  March 2010 you can join the caving activities in Castell de Castells,in ”A journey to the center of the earth”, a mixture of science and adventure to discover the underground world: narrow passages,  dark wells etc.

Guided Hike of Sierra de Oltá

On Thursday the 25th of March, the Town Hall of Calpe (Alicante), is organizing a guided hike to the summit of the Sierra de Olta, where you can enjoy the  nature in the area and the beautiful views.

The Sierra de  Oltá is a mountain near Calpe with an excellent vantage point of the coast   from the  Serra Gelada to the Montgó and the nearby Sierra de Bernia. It´s highest altitude is 588 metres  above sea level.

The walking tour to the top of the Sierra de Olta is being held on Thursday the 25th of  March at 10:00 hours. The meeting point is Olta camping area and the hike is estimated to have a duration of 3 hours. You will need to register at the information desk at the  Tourist Info Calpe Peñon on the street  Avenida Ejercitos Españoles nº 44 or by calling on 96 583 6920. Be sure to wear comfortable footwear and bring drinking water.

The Fish Auction of Calpe

The fish auction in Calpe (Alicante) is probably one of the greatest attractions of the town. There is a viewpoint from where one can watch the auction in process. Although it is not permitted  to actually participate in the auction, one can purchase fresh fish and seafood  from the stalls at the fish market or sample the catch at the a various fish restaurants of Calpe.

The auction is organized by the Fishermen’s Association of Calpe, and takes place from Monday through to Friday beginning at 5 pm and lasting for  about two hours.

When the ships reach land the fish is unloaded and placed on a conveyor located inside the building so that traders can see the catch whilst at the same time a screen  indicatines which boat has made the catch, it´s origin. It also show the auction time, the type of fish, it´s weight and  starting price. There is also a minimum price below which the catch is kept by the Fishermen’s Association.

All the fish that is auctioned is fresh and caught by boats that day. If you wish to try csome of the  local fish or sea food  we recommend the gamba roja ( red prawns), las cigalas (the Dublin Bay prawns), las galeras ( mantis shrimps) or el rape ( the monkfish).

“Lied” Programme at the Palau de la Musica in Valencia

The Lied Genre , “Género Lied” refers to typical compositions of German-speaking countries and written for one singer with piano accompaniment: A fusion of poetry and music that has been renovated and is now in full swing. The Real Club Náutico Calpe ( the Royal Nautical Club)  in the coastal town of Calpe has a magnificent coastal location at the foot of the Rock of Ifach. with excellent  facilities.

The Real Club Náutico of Calpe was founded in June 1976 with the aim of creating an area that will facilitate the practice of nautical sports. The Club has 264 moorings under the grant dated 11 July 2002.

It is a non profit institution that seeks to promote water sports. To this end they carry out various activities in the sailing school, besides organizing regattas, nautical activities and large national and international events.

The Offering of Flowers to , "La Virgen de los Desamparados"

The Offering of Flowers to , “La Virgen de los Desamparados,” (the Virgin of the Forsaken) is an exiting event  that takes place each year during the Fallas of Valencia. The meeting points of the different , “Fallero,” committees before the start the parade, are the best places to enjoy the atmosphere and the excitement of the fallero  offering. However if you wish to join the parades there are two which eventually meet at the Plaza de La Virgen. One of which commences from the Glorieta in front of the Palacio de Justicia and the other which sets off from the Iglesia de San Agustin.

Upon reaching the Plaza de la Virgen, the committees wait to be called to present their offering to the Virgin where upon they present their bouquets to the various artists who made the Virgin´s robe.

This will take place on Wednesday the 17th of March and Thursday the 18th of March. The  head “Fallera”, will be making her offering on Thursday the 18th of March at 23.45h.

Upon completion of the offering at the Plaza de la Virgen it  is crammed  with visitors and residents of Valencia to take a picture of the artwork that forms the Robe of the Virgin of the Forsaken.

Other events to enjoy during Valencia  Fallas 2010 are mascletaes,  fireworks, bull running etc.

A guided tour around the archaeological site of the baths of Queen

This year Calpe Town Hall organizes free guided tours to learn about the natural environment and heritage of the municipality.

Next Thursday,  on the 18th of March 2010: Guided walking tour in the Natural Park “Peñon of Ifach”, visiting the “Vila d’Ifac, the Nature Center and climb through the tunnel. The tour will take place at 10:00 h setting off from the  Tourist Info Calpe Peñon , on the Avenida de los Ejercitos Españoles, 44, and will take approx. two and half hours.

The same day they are organising another tour to take  place  at the Baños de la Reina. A guided tour around the archaeological site of the baths of Queen, the  set off is programmed for 12:30 am from the Calle Luxemburgo and the tour is estimated to take about an hour and half.

- On Friday the 19th of March there will be a  guided tour through the “Old Town” passing  various points of interest such as churches, museums, The Hermitage, etc.. Departure is from the Casa de Cultura on Avenida Masnou, 1 at 10:30 pm and is estimated to last for 1 ½ hours.

- On Tuesday 16th March “Vila d’Ifac Tour” guided tour inside the archaeological site of Vila d’Ifac, the  set off point is at the base of the Peñon de Ifach (next to the parking area) at 12:30am, and is to take approx. 1 hour.

Programme for the Valencia Fallas and Fireworks Display 2010 on the Paseo de Alameda, to be held in the dry riverbed of the river Turia. This wonderful night time show  of fireworks that  forms part of the Valencian Fallas and is known as the , “Noche del Fuego,” ( The Night of Fire  ), is to be held on the 18th of March 2010 at 01.30h.

It is advisable to go early to ensure a  good place, the only drawback being the waiting time, but it is definitely worth waiting for as the displays that take place in Valencia during the fallas are spectacular. It is also recommendable to wear comfortable shoes as the best way to get around and enjoy the city night life is on foot.

One of the main attractions of Valencia Fallas are the Mascletaes

During the month of March, the fesitival known as, “The Fallas” is held in Valencia. Las Fallas  has been declared of International Tourist Interest,  and are held in honor of St. Joseph (March 19).

One of the main attractions of Valencia Fallas are the, “Mascletaes”. The “Mascletà,” to give you some idea of what to expect, is an explosive display of the concussive effects of coordinated firecracker and fireworks barrages that takes place in each neighbourhood .

The Roman site of the Baños de la Reina, the “Queen´s Baths”

The Roman site of the Baños de la Reina, (the “Queen´s Baths”) in Calpe is an exeptional coastal  enclave. As you can see from the photo  overlookings a bay of calm waters protected by the Rock of Ifach.

Preserved fish was the main product of the town of Calpe, becoming the lifeblood of early settlers, this activity generated a small population that built their houses on the coastal dunes, resulting in rather a selective and diversified residential development.

For this reason they created the Baños de la Reina in Calpe; this site unveils the existence of a  fish farm in the late Roman periods. The first period corresponding to the 2nd century and the last corresponding to end of the 4th.

In the picture you can see that they are still well preserved today. If you ignore some of  the erosion that is caused by  the sea, yet can still see several channels and caves carved in stone.

The  Baños de la Reina in Calpe is a setting admired by all visitors to the town of Calpe (Alicante), and reminds us of  the history of the municipality and the various cultures that have been part of Calpe.

Calpe events calender 2010

The tourism department of the municipality of Calpe has launched a new initiative,  by distributing in bars and restaurants  five thousand calendar cards with the complete schedule of events in Calpe 2010.

These cards not only serve as informational material, but as a tool for the publication and promotion of thirty the celebrations held in the town throughout the year, and  to this end it is hoped that they will  attract a large audience  for these dates.

The cards are being designed in the municipal department of reproduction, and contain the complete list of events in Castilian, English and German. They include local festivals, associations, religious groups and institutions.

These calendar cards will be useful to both tourists and home owners in the area. This way they will be more aware of the festivity dates of the year and can make them coincide with their holidays to Calpe.

The Levante or La Fossa Beach in Calpe

The Levante beach or the Fossa is  the most popular beach of Calpe. This is an  unusual picture of the Levante beach as it is very hard to find it so devoid people.

The Levante beach is situated north of the Rock of Ifach, (“Peñon de Ifach,”) and  has stretches along  950 meters of white sand; a delight for those who like to lie on the sand and enjoy the sun.

It is the most all-inclusive  beach of Calpe thanks to  the number of amenities it offers , among which are the easy accesses, litter bins, playground, scooters and beach umbrellas and hammocks for rent. Also, the  foot showers, bathrooms, showers, changing rooms, a sports area and lifeguards provided by  the Red Cross.

In the summer it offers an area with services to facilitate access to the bathroom for the disabled equipped with amphibious chair, bathrooms, showers and changing rooms.

This beach is always kept extremely clean, so much so, that it is hard to believe the amount of people that frequent the beach in the Summer. In recent years the Playa de Levante or  La Fossa beach has  been awarded the blue flag which it holds since 2004. It also boasts the  certification Q Quality awarded by the Spanish Tourism Quality Institute.

In the summer evenings one can enjoy outdoor cinema whilst relaxing on the sand and during the afternoon  one can amble along it´s beautiful  promenade with pubs, restaurants, ice cream parlours, shops etc. In the Summer it is a  busy place for almost 24 hours a day and is actually, quite difficult to catch in the peaceful state seen in the photograph.

Andalusian day in Calpe

The festivities in Calpe are guaranteed throughout the year. On 28 February the Andalusians that are residents in Calpe are the stars of the occasion and  the celebration of Andalusia. The, “Fiesta,”   of , “Andalusian Day,”has been held in Calpe since 1996.

Each year during the several days of celebration there are a variety of events highlighting the tribute to  the members, performances by dance groups from the “Casa de Andalucía” and of course a large and varied sample of typical Andalusian cuisine, international and local cuisine,as many of both members and friends, are  from  different communities and  of different nationalities.

The music and art  is thanks to the dance groups from the “Casa de Andalucía“  which surprise us annually  with spectacular performances. Free tours Calpe, Voramar Calalga

Free tours in Calpe during February 2010, organized by the Department of Tourism of the City of Calpe. To register you only need to go to the information desk  at the Tourist Information office known as,” Tourist Info Calpe Peñon”, which you can find on the  Avenida  de los Ejercitos Españoles 44, or call  965 836 920.

On all tours they recommend that you  wear comfortable shoes and take water, as all trips are made on foot.

The first guided tour, the “Voramar Calalga” tour, will be leave from the , “Plaza Mediterráneo,” ( the Mediterranean Square) at 10.00h on Thursday, 25th February 2010. And is estimated to take about an hour and a half.

The Cala Calalga in Calpe is situated at the end of the Levante Beach. This easy  hike will take you along a trail where you can admire the magnificent views of the coastline, passing through some of the coves to the Port of Calp Bassetes

The second guided tour on Thursday, February 25th 2010 called,”Hiking Vila d’Ifach” is set  to leave from the foot of the Peñon de Ifach at 12.30h (by the car park).

It will consist of a guided tour around the archaeological site of Vila d’Ifach. and is estimated to last approximately one hour.

The Five Club Trophy Regatta

The Royal Nautical Club of Calpe ( Real Club Náutico de Calpe) will be holding their Spring Season Regatta  of , “The Five Club Trophy,”on Sunday the 21st of February 2010.

On the day of the regatta there will be lunch for all the participants and after the regatta they will present the corresponding trophies.

The next Five Club Trophy meetings will held on March the 14th at the Altea Nautical Club and the following will be on the 14th of November 2010  at  Royal Nautical Club of Calpe.

The Queen´s baths of Calpe

Discovering the patrimony of the municipality of Calpe is now easier than ever thanks to the guided tours organized by the Town Hall totally free of charge.

On the 18th of February 2010 you are offered the opportunity to  discover some of the the hidden, “Jewels,” of the area.

The first guided tour is set to leave at 10.30h from the, “Casa de Cultura”on the Avenida Masnou nº1. The tour will take you to  see  emblematic places of interest, like, “La Ermita,” “La Iglesia Parroquial de nuestra Señora de las Nieves,” or the Archeological  Museum of Calpe.

The next guided tour will  is scheduled to leave on the same day at 12.30 h from Calle Luxemburgo, to visit the , “Baños de la Reina,” ( The Queen´s baths), which is an archeological site cut into the rock on the sea shore.

The Marq museum Alicante

Until the 28th of February 2010 the Marq Museum of Alicante will be exhibiting Archaeologicalfindings from the Calpe region.

“Calpe, Archaeology and Museum” is the seventh exhibition in the MARQ’s programme of Municipal Museum exhibitions. This exhibition displays the rich  culture of the remarkable settlement of Calpe; it´s archaeological sites and the finds which make up the collection of the Calpe Archaeology Museum.

The exhibition shows a wide variety of objects found during archaeological excavations on different sites throughout the municipal area of Calpe. There are finds from the Roman site of ,”Los Baños de la Reina,” ( The Queen´s Baths), including pins and other bone adornments, imported marble, cooking utensils, tableware, coins, tools, fishing tackle, amphorae and various graves. All of these objects provide an overall insight into what life would have been like in this important Roman settlement.

Over the past few years, Calpe’s archaeological heritage has been  enhanced with an interesting project organised by the Provincial Government of Alicante and the MARQ in the medieval settlement of Ifach. This site, located on the sides of the Peñon de Ifach, ( the Calpe Rock),has provided a number of important archaeological and architectural finds.

The exhibition is divided into different themes, covering the Iberian period to the modern period.

It  focuses on two main areas: the Roman settlement of , “Los Baños de la Reina”, and the remains of the medieval settlement of Ifach on the “ Peñon de Ifach.”

Calpe has a rich and important history highlighted by this exhibition, which demonstrates it´s great cultural and archaeological legacy which is in turn, a cultural  reference point for the Costa Blanca area, as well as in the rest of the Alicante province.

The German Carnivals Calpe 2010

The German Carnivals are organized by the Calpe Carnival Club, a group of German residents  living in Calpe, which has been arranging festive activities since 1982. The Calpe Carnival Club is well known for organizing the famous October Beer Festival, which has become exceedingly popular and draws crowds from all over the region.

The 20th and the 21st of February 2010 are the two most important days on the German Carnival Calendar which is when they celebrate the traditional parades with marching bands etc. They also hold the  International Music and Folk Competition at the Municipal Sports Centre.

The Parade will consist of  around 400 participants lending a  touch of colour to the streets of Calpe.  Just to add to the merriment there will be  all kinds of  entertainers, comedians, bands and dancers who are well known celebrities within Germany. The Carnival Committee have put together an especially humorous  line up of artists  during this festival week.

The camping Levante in Calpe

The Levante Camping Site in Calpe ( Alicante), is open from the 1st of March right through until the  31st of December. You will find it on the road , “Avenida de Juan Carlos I,” at a scarce 200 metres from the beach, known a little confusingly, by two names, either the “Playa Levante”, or the “Playa de La Fossa”. ( This is the beach located to the left of the Peñon de Ifach , the Calpe Rock).

It is situated approximately 20 km from Benidorm, 80 km from Alicante and 100 km from Alicante Airport.
